FOUNDING CO-DIRECTOR
Dr. Theresa Foy is a founding Co-Director of Atlantic Volleyball Acådemy. She launched and manages the administrative arm of the business.
Theresa’s experience is in finance and general management having served in Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer roles with functional responsibility for marketing, finance, accounting, facilities, human resources, and operations. Her industry experience includes education, sports television, music, and consumer products.
Theresa was named one of CableFAX’s “Most Powerful Women in Cable” and recognized as a CableFAX 100 Top Regional Player. She was also selected by Multichannel News for their “40 Under 40” executives list, and was honored by Long Island Business News as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business. She is a Betsy Magness Leadership Institute fellow and served on the board of Forestdale, Inc., a nonprofit organization for New York City children in foster care.
Theresa is a Providence College graduate, received her MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business and is a licensed CPA. In 2018, she earned a doctorate degree in Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania. Her dissertation research focused on the hiring process for women leaders in education.
Theresa plays recreational volleyball and tennis, and is a Yoga Alliance 200-hour certified yoga instructor. Her greatest source of enjoyment, however, is time spent on the sideline with her husband watching their three daughters play volleyball, soccer, and lacrosse.
FOUNDING CO-DIRECTOR
Paulo Castro is a founding Co-Director of Atlantic Volleyball Acådemy. Paulo has had a long successful career in volleyball. His passion for the sport started when he was just 10 years old in Brazil. At age 13, he entered the highly regarded Marist Schools, and later became a Brazilian Marist Olympiad champion by beating the strong team of Sao Paulo in the finals in 1985.
Paulo made all state 1st team as an outside hitter for 3 consecutive years, 1984, 1985 and 1986. In 1985 he was invited to coach youth teams at AABB (Associacao Atletica Banco
do Brasil).
Paulo arrived in the USA in 1987 and it didn’t take long for him to engage in the volleyball community in NYC. He played various indoor tournaments, including The Empire State games, as well as beach volleyball. He is most proud in his own playing career of winning a Jose Cuervo Open Qualifier in Long Beach that won him a bid to Nationals in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
Paulo has successfully coached girls’ club volleyball for many years and currently coaches middle school volleyball at Buckley Country Day School.Today he continues to play in Masters division tournaments and last May, he and his team VTNC#RJ BRASIL won the bronze metal at the Columbus Ohio National Championships in the 45+ division.
He is thrilled to be a founding Co-Director of Atlantic Volleyball Acådemy and is excited to share his love for the sport with the next generation of athletes.
